VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Women's Basketball team has reason to celebrate after being selected as a number four seed for the 2023 NCAA March Madness Tournament. This is a significant achievement for the team, as they prepare to compete against some of the top teams in the country.
The Wildcats, lead by 2023 Naismith Women’s College Player of the Year semifinalist - amongst other accolades - Maddy Siegrist, have had a successful season thus far, finishing with a 28-8 overall record and an impressive 17-3 record in the Big East Conference. Their strong performance throughout the regular season has earned them a spot in the tournament, where they will have the opportunity to showcase their skills on a national stage.
Head Coach Denise Dillon expressed her excitement for the team's selection, stating, "Last year we were sitting in here waiting to see our name called and, this year, aware we were in and just not knowing where we were going to be seeded. We are in a great position and we are extremely excited."
The Wildcats will begin their tournament journey in the first round with a homecourt advantage at the Finneran Pavilion, where they will face off against number 13 seed, Cleveland State. If they are successful in their first matchup, they will move on to the second round, where they will face the winner of Washington State (5) and Florida Gulf Coast (12).
