Statement by Andrew McKeough on the 2024 Election Results

As a supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris, this election outcome is profoundly disappointing. Kamala Harris represented a commitment to inclusivity, equity and progressive change, with a vision for a country that values diversity and works to expand opportunities for all its citizens. Her loss feels like a setback, not just for her supporters, but for the progress we have hoped to make in addressing critical issues such as healthcare, climate change, reproductive rights and racial justice.

Harris’s career has been defined by her dedication to public service and her ability to break barriers, including as the first woman, first black and first South Asian vice president. Her candidacy inspired many, and her vision offered a path toward an America that recognizes and values the experiences of people from all backgrounds. While this is a moment of sorrow, it also serves as a call to continue pushing forward, holding onto the ideals she stood for and striving to keep her vision of America alive.

Though the outcome of this election may be difficult to accept, it’s essential to find hope and unity in moving forward. Our democracy relies on peaceful transitions of power, and we respect that Donald Trump has been elected to lead our nation. We hope his administration can be productive, addressing the many challenges facing Americans today.

For those of us who supported Kamala Harris, this is not an end but a moment to reaffirm our commitment to the values we cherish. We must continue advocating for inclusivity, equality, and justice, working alongside all who wish to build a better future. It’s our responsibility to stay engaged, to seek common ground, and to believe in the strength of our shared ideals. Together, we can ensure that our nation remains a place of hope, resilience and opportunity for all.

I would like to personally congratulate President-Elect Trump on his victory. As he prepares to take on the immense responsibility of leading our country, we extend our best wishes for a productive and successful administration. Leading a nation as diverse and dynamic as ours is no small task, and we sincerely hope his leadership will bring about positive change and unity for all Americans. May his term be filled with wisdom, compassion and dedication to the well-being of every citizen.

Thank you to President Biden and Vice President Harris, for your service and dedication to our nation. Your leadership has navigated complex challenges with resilience and a focus on unity, and we are grateful for your commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive America. As you prepare to leave office, we wish you both all the best in the next chapters of your lives and in any future endeavors. May your legacy inspire others to continue the work of making our country a place of opportunity, justice, and progress for all.
