TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - After months of speculation, conservative front-runner Ron DeSantis filed presidential paperwork on May 24th before announcing on Twitter during a conversation with Elon Musk.

"We chose facts over fear, education over indoctrination, law and order over rioting and disorder. We held the line when freedom hung in the balance,” DeSantis explained in the video.

After posting the video to Twitter, he captioned it “I’m running for president to lead our Great American Comeback.”

Desantis began his political career in 2012, after being elected to the House of Representatives. He was reelected both in 2014 as well as 2016, before winning the Governor's Mansion in 2018 by a slim margin. Throughout his time in the House, he was a stiff conservative and sat on the Freedom Caucus Committee.

A longtime defender of former President Trump, DeSantis will now be his fiercest competitor. “No excuses, I will get the job done,” Desantis said.

“My pledge to you in this: If you nominate me you can set your clock to January 20, 2025, at high noon because on the west side of the US Capitol, I will be taking the oath of office as the 47th president of the United States.”

Upon announcing his campaign, Desantis received strict backlash from Karoline Leavit, a spokesperson for Make America Great Again Inc. This will be just the beginning of a brutal competition between the two popular conservatives.

“Ron DeSantis’ botched campaign announcement is another example of why he is just not ready for the job. The stakes are too high, and the fight to save America is too critical to gamble on a first-timer who is clearly not ready for prime time.”

The Republican National Committee (RNC) announced that the first Republican presidential debate is set for August 23rd in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This will also be where the GOP nominating convention will be held in 2024.
