WASHINGTON - As the midterm election gets closer, Republican candidate for Georgia’s US Senate seat Herschel Walker has found himself in hot water once again. Accusations have come out that Walker paid for his girlfriend to get an abortion in 2009. The Daily Beast published an article with alleged evidence that his then girlfriend got an abortion that was paid for by him. The article reported that the woman had a receipt from the abortion clinic, a “get-well soon” card from Walker himself, and a bank deposit receipt of a $700 personal check signed by him. In response to the story, Walker claimed its contents were false and threated to sue The Daily Beast for defamation for releasing the story. He appeared on Fox News to say again that the story was false. He told anchor Sean Hannity that the $700 check to the woman was not unusual, as he has given many people large sums of money throughout his life since being a professional football player.

Since the story has come out, Herschel Walker’s TikTok famous son Christian Walker has spoken out against his father and his actions. "You're not a 'family man' when you left us to bang a bunch of women, threatened to kill us, and had us move over 6 times in 6 months running from your violence," said Walker’s son Christian. In addition to Christian, Walker has three other children, one of which is allegedly the child of the woman who Walker paid to get an abortion back in 2009. While Walker claimed to not know the woman, The Daily Beast further reported that she is the mother of one of Walker’s children as well as Walker’s ex-girlfriend.

Christian Walker took to Twitter and TikTok to speak out against his father and his actions, while Walker himself has been telling people that the media is lying to his son and driving the two of them apart. The woman who had an abortion in 2009 spoke to the New York Times this past Friday. Her anonymity was preserved, but she criticized Walker’s approach to fatherhood with his now ten year old son, who was born in 2011. The woman also claimed that Walker tried to urge her to get a second abortion when she was pregnant with her son in 2011. Walker has continued to claim that he did not fund this woman’s abortion as the story unfolds. He has feigned ignorance and innocence as the media slams him over the alleged abortion allegations.

This abortion scandal has left voters wondering who to vote for as the election closes in. However, the Republican party is standing by Walker and supporting him in his denial of the abortion allegations. Walker is openly anti-abortion, so this scandal can definitely affect him in the polls as we head closer to Election Day.

As Republicans fight to win control of Senate in the next few weeks, Herschel Walker’s win can be compromised by this scandal that has made him look like a hypocrite. As the scandal unfolds, it remains to be seen if it will affect his popularity among Georgia voters. Whether or not Walker is able to unseat incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock is something that will be left unknown until Election Day.
