HOUSTON - The Odysseus lunar lander, affectionately nicknamed "Odie" or IM-1, made history as the first U.S. touchdown on the moon in over half a century on Thursday. The achievement, spearheaded by Intuitive Machines, signifies a significant leap forward in space exploration, although initial communication was fraught with challenges.

Mission director Tim Crain's announcement confirmed the successful landing, albeit with a weak signal. Although technology has advanced since the previous moon landing, landing on the moon isn’t easy. Odysseus has had to overcome sheer distance and the rough terrain on the moon’s surface with a successful mission
