VILLANOVA, PA - In an announcement by Villanova University Provost, Dr. Patrick Maggitti, on Wednesday, it was announced that due to the increased amount of confirmed cases of the coronavirus - now called COVID-19 - Villanova has decided to bring all of their students who are studying abroad in Italy back home. The statement reads that the University has an emergency preparedness team that are constantly monitoring the situation and information coming from medical and scientific experts.

Students in Italy will travel back to the United States to go home for their Spring Break recess. No information on any quarantine procedures were announced. In addition to bringing home students who are studying in Italy, Villanova has asked students to visit the University Health Center if they feel unwell at all. The University also stated that the flu is the predominant issue at the Health Center.

The Italian study abroad program has been ended for now and there is no information on whether the program will resume in the fall. As for now, Villanova is trying to get ahead of the situation in order to protect the University community and make sure that the virus does not spread to the campus.
