Statement by Andrew McKeough on the First Anniversary of the Death of Professor Charles M. McKeough
As the world welcomes a new year, I find myself pausing to reflect on the profound loss I experienced exactly one year ago today. My father passed away on New Year's Day, marking a moment of profound sadness amidst the hope of fresh beginnings.
This year has been one of immense change and growth as I’ve learned to navigate life without his presence at that of my mother’s as well. Their love, wisdom and steady guidance remain etched in my heart, shaping the person I strive to be everyday.
Grief is a complex journey, but it has reminded me of the deep connections that continue even after someone is gone. I carry my parents with me in countless ways: in the lessons they taught me, the memories we shared, and the values that they instilled in me.
Today, I honor my father’s life and the incredible legacy he left behind. I’m grateful for the support of friends, family and the Villanova community who have stood by me during this past year, helping me find strength in moments of weakness.
As I move forward into another year, I hold onto the love Dad gave so freely to anyone he met, letting it guide me in my actions and decisions. Though he is no longer physically here, his spirit remains a part of my life, always.
Dad, you are missed more than words can express. I love you and will continue to carry your light forward.
