Statement by Andrew McKeough on the Passing of Michael Gaynor

It is with deep sadness to hear the news of the passing of Michael Gaynor, who departed this life is morning after a short battle with stage four urothelial carcinoma.

Michael was a man of immense dedication and integrity, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew him. A proud graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School, Saint Joseph's University, and Villanova University, his academic journey laid the foundation for a remarkable 42-year career at Villanova University. For 24 of those years, Michael served as the Executive Director of Undergraduate Admission, a role in which he touched countless lives, helping to shape the futures of thousands of students - including myself.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael was a devoted husband and father. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Debbie; daughter, Anna; and two sons, Nick and Christian. His commitment to his family was unwavering, and his love for them was evident in every aspect of his life.

After my father’s passing in January, Michael sent me an heartfelt message of sympathy and support. In that message he said the following:

“Be gentle on yourself – grieving is impatient and learning who you are without parents, a new reality. Look for transformation and blessings in time.”

Those words brought immense comfort to myself during a time of great grief and loss.

Michael Gaynor will be remembered for his compassion, his wisdom and his unyielding spirit. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he served and loved. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
