A Review of the 95th Academy Awards

LOS ANGELES - The 95th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, took place on March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre in in Hollywood and was presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and was broadcast live on ABC.
Everything Everywhere All at Once, directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, swept the awards and won the Best Picture award, as well as Michelle Yeoh for Best Actress and Oscars for film editing, and directing, amongst others. The film follows an unlikely hero who must channel her newfound powers to fight bizarre and bewildering dangers from the multiverse as the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
Brendan Fraser won the Best Actor award for his role in The Whale, a film about a man struggling with being a reclusive and obesity as he tries to reconnect with his teenage daughter for a last chance at redemption.
Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis won the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress respectively for their portrayals in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio won Best Animated Feature as All Quiet on the Western Front, a German film, won the Best International Feature Film award.
Overall, the 2023 Oscars celebrated diversity and recognized films that explored important social issues. The ceremony also paid tribute to actors and filmmakers who passed away in the previous year, including Olivia Newton-John.
