WASHINGTON - President Biden delivered a primetime address from the Oval Office on Sunday evening calling for unity across the nation following yesterday’s attempted Assassination of Donald Trump.

The primetime address comes just over 24 hours after 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate the former President and current Republican nominee outside of Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The primetime address is Biden's first from the oval office in nine months and the third Oval Office address of his presidency.

“My fellow Americans, I want to speak to you tonight about the need for us to lower the temperature in our politics,” Biden said at the start of his speech from behind the resolute desk, “And remember, while we may disagree, we are not enemies.”

Biden took it upon himself saying he is relieved that his rival and opponent is not seriously injured following the attempted assassination in Western Pennsylvania.

“I spoke with him [Trump] last night,” Biden said, “I’m grateful he is doing well and Jill and I keep him and his family in our prayers.”

Biden also took the time in his address to extend his condolences to the family of Corey Comperatore, who lost his life to the shooter at yesterday’s rally.

“Corey [Comperatore] was a husband, a father, a volunteer firefighter, a hero sheltering his family from those bullets,” said Biden, “We should all hold his family and all those injured in our prayers.”

Biden continued to condemn the attack on Trump saying there is no place in America for any kind of violence.

Biden also called for all Americans to take a step back from letting passion run too high, especially with the upcoming Presidential election in November.

“A former President was shot, an American citizen was killed, while simply exercising his freedom to support the candidate of his choosing,” Biden reiterated to the nation, “We cannot and must not go down this road in America.”

He also acknowledged that disagreement in American politics is inevitable and is a part of human nature but that disagreement must be peaceful.

“Politics must never be a literal battlefield, god forbid a killing field,” said Biden, “It’s not American. And we cannot allow this to happen,”

Biden closed his primetime remarks from the Oval Office by reiterating the importance of unity and togetherness.

“We are the United States of America,” Biden said as he concluded his remarks, “There is nothing beyond our capacity when we do it together.”
